Read more about electrical fire protection

An electrical fire starts inside something: a distribution board, an MCB box, a server cabinet, a battery enclosure. By the time it is visible from outside, the damage is done. That is why this category splits into two jobs — something that works unattended inside the enclosure, and something a person uses outside it. Cover starts at ₹ 1,349.00.

Why not ABC dry powder on electronics

ABC dry powder is rated for electrically started fires and it will put one out. The problem is what it leaves behind. Mono ammonium phosphate is mildly corrosive and conductive once it picks up humidity, and it gets everywhere — into card edges, fan bearings, connector housings. Equipment that survived the fire often does not survive the clean-up.

CO₂ and clean agent leave no residue at all. In a room full of equipment that is worth more than the building work, that difference is the whole argument.

Automatic or manual

An automatic device is fitted inside the enclosure and operates on heat, without power, wiring or a detection panel. Nobody has to be present, which is the point for an MCB box in a stairwell or a panel that runs overnight. A manual extinguisher covers everything the automatic device cannot see.

Most sites need both. The automatic unit handles the fire at the point it starts; the cylinder on the wall handles the one that got out.

Before you buy

CO₂ and clean agent both carry a five-year content life. CO₂ cylinders have no pressure gauge — they are checked by weight, not by needle, which is normal and not a fault. Every extinguisher ships with a wall mount.

The prices above are single-unit prices. Alfa Fire also supplies builders, facility contractors, data centre fit-outs and institutional buyers in bulk, quoted against the requirement, with a response within one working day.

Electrical fire protection — common questions

Which fire extinguisher is used for electrical fires?

CO₂ or clean agent, because neither leaves a residue on equipment. ABC dry powder is rated for electrically started fires and works, but the powder is corrosive once it absorbs humidity and is difficult to clean out of electronics. A 2kg CO₂ unit starts at ₹ 4,011.00.

Can a fire extinguisher be installed inside an electrical panel?

Yes. The automatic aerosol device from ₹ 1,349.00 is designed to be fitted inside a sealed enclosure and operates on heat alone, with no power supply, wiring or detection panel. It is the standard answer for an MCB box or a panel that runs unattended.

CO₂ or clean agent for a server room?

Clean agent if the room is occupied during working hours, because it is used at concentrations people can be exposed to briefly. CO₂ works by displacing oxygen, so it is better suited to an unoccupied rack room. Clean agent starts at ₹ 9,499.00.

Does ABC dry powder damage electronics?

Usually, yes. Mono ammonium phosphate is mildly corrosive and becomes conductive as it takes up moisture from the air. It also travels into places that cannot be cleaned without stripping the equipment. Hardware that survives the fire frequently does not survive the powder.

Why does the CO₂ extinguisher have no pressure gauge?

CO₂ is stored as a liquid, so a gauge would read full until the cylinder was nearly empty. They are checked by weighing instead. A missing gauge on a CO₂ unit is correct, not a defect.
